St. Augustine Daily Meditations (1/28-30)

Hi guys :) Erica here. Since Martin and I are going to be on the Newman Center Winter Retreat, I posted today's meditation and the weekend's as well. Don't read them all at once, but rather, try and remind yourself to read one each day. That way you dedicate a little of each day to God :). Read these words, but also use the prayer and meditate after! I made the formatting exactly how it looks in the book. It's pretty cool. HAHA. Happy praying!! :D

The Son of God Became the Way

The Son of God, Who is always in the Father truth and life, became the way by taking Himself a Man. Walk along the Man and you arrive at God.
You go by Him, you come to Him. Don't look for a way to come to Him apart from Him. After all, if He had refused to be the way, we would always be going astray. -Sermon, 141, 4

Humble and Friendly in Giving

The spirit of the person who actually hands something to the poor experiences a kind of sympathy with common humanity and infirmity when the hand of the one who has is actually placed in the hand of the one who is in need.
Although the one is giving, the other receiving, yet the one being attended to and the one attending are being joined in a real relationship. You see, it isn't calamity that really unites us, but humanity. -Sermon, 259,5

Son of God and Son of Man

The Maker of man, He was made Man, so that the Director of the stars might be a Babe at the breast; that Bread might be hungry and the Fountain thirsty; that the Light might sleep and the Way be weary from a journey; that the Truth might be accused by false witnesses and the Judge of the living and the dead be judged by a mortal judge. -Sermon, 191,1

Believe in the Divinity of Christ

Hold on to the faith in all its strength and integrity and catholicity. Whenever you hear or read in the Scriptures a place where the Father is shown to be greater, remember "the form of a servant"; while when you read that Father and Son are one, believe the Divinity of Christ. -Sermon, 229G
